I like to MS Excel window on top of another application (that runs in real time) so that I can recalculate certain variables in the spreadsheet and react to the result within the underlying [realtime] window instantly - without having to switch between views. This is of great benefit, as it allows me to remain more focussed on the mental processes involved...
