There's been an issue that started with AWM 5.4, where certain windows will not display.

Experienced this with the following:

AOL Instant Messenger 5.5.3572 Get | Signup
Issue: Instant Message window failing to display.
1: Log on.
2: Close the buddy list window. (has tray icon)
3: Recieve message from someone on your buddy list.
-: The instant message window will not appear.

DC++ 0.401 Get
Issue: Main program window failing to display.
1: Open program.
-: The program window will not appear.

This problem surely also exists for other programs too, these are just 2 that I've come across.

Unchecking 'Prevent window "jumping" during Align/Resize' or checking 'Compatibility mode' doesn't help, the only way to stop the problem from occuring is to add the program to the exclusion list. But by doing this then AWM can't be used with that program, so thus a fix is needed. It was probably something related to the addition of those options that broke it, as it relates to interacting with the window before it would be displayed.

This is an annoying glitch because who knows what windows that programs open may not display, I only found out about the AIM(AOL Instant Messenger) one because I heard the sound of the message and the window was nowhere to be found.

It's possible to get a non-shown window to display with a program called Win-Res-Q, but this is just an emergency recovery option if you really need to access the window- it's not a fix or a workaround.

Dear Razon,

Thank you for your post.

The problem is confirmed with DC++. We'll fix it.

But we fail to reproduce it with AOL.
