The virtual desktop feature is incompatable with Winstep Extreme and Nexus, from winstep.net.
These are dock/launcher programs, if they are running and a switch is made to a virtual desktop, the Winstep windows become blank unresponsive areas on the desktop.

Since the release of the final version of 5.4 AWM is totally incompatible with Winstep Extreme, whether the virtual desktop feature is turned on or off.
I will have to revert to version 5.3 so that I an run both programs in harmony.
I hope you can fix the problem.
Best Regards

Dear Gerard,
Unfortunately, we were not able to solve the problem with Winstep Extreme to release version 5.4. But we'll fix it on 5.5.
The problem is disappearing if you disable the Window Thumbnails option. Configuration {Win+C} -> Actions -> Options -> Window Thumbnails.

Thank you Tatiana, I have tried disabling thumbnails, but in my case it still does not work. Maybe because I use the Aero features of Vista.

As an update to the problem of AWM being incompatible with Winstep Extreme and Nexus dock from Winstep.net.
I have found that if I have Winstep Extreme running, then AWM is started, all of the docks and the shelf become unresponsive
blank white areas on the screen.
At first I had no option but to use the Winstep Extreme tray icon to exit the program, exiting AWM did not restore the shelf and docks.
I could then run one or the other of the two programs but not both together.
I have now found that if I use the tray icon to access the preferences for Winstep Extreme and disable then renable the docks and shelf,
they now function correctly and AWM leaves them alone. So it seems the problem occurs when Actual Windows Manager initially starts up.
I have thumbnails and virtual desktops disabled.
If i then enable virtual desktops and switch to a different desktop, the shelf and docks blank out again and I have to disable/re-enable them all over again.
Best Regards

This problem appears to have been corrected with 5.5 beta 1.
Many thanks for that.
