Using AWM 8.5 beta 1 on Vista Ultimate 32-bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit I noticed that empty lines started appearing in the recent folder window (see attached picture). I use recent folders very regularly and have not seen this happen before. I tested the upgrade from 8.4 to 8.5 beta 1, but it does not happen right then. It seems that in version 8.5 beta 1 some folders are not recognized and the empty lines are stored. Because the window width is determined by the longest line length and the empty rule is long, the window stretched out over the entire monitor. Notice that all empty line have the same icon. I tried to determine what the icon depicts, but I have not been able to do so.

I vaguely remember a similar issue when recent folders were very new, but I cannot recall the specifics of that issue anymore. However, as said, I am pretty sure that this started happening after upgrading to 8.5 beta 1 on both my computers. I have seen this happening a.o. in Directory Opus and Windows Explorer.

I have attached another screen shot of the Recent folders in the configuration window where it is clear that there apparently empty lines in the list with recent folders.

Thank you for the info. The issue has been confirmed and fixed. Empty lines correspond to so-called "virtual paths", like various sections in the Control Panel; their processing has been accidentally broken in 8.5 beta 1. The fix will be available in the upcoming version 8.5 final.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for the update. This brings up a question which I have had for some time now but had not posed yet: is there a purpose for including virtual paths in Recent folders? Can I do something with it? I have never been able to actually use them, maybe it is a lack of knowledge. If there is no use for virtual folders, would it not be better to not include virtual paths in Recent folders?

Best regards.

Hello Pim,

Please try out the just released AWM 8.5 beta 2 - the subject issue is already fixed there (and many others).

As for your question, some kinds of virtual folders are actually file folders (like "Libraries" since Windows 7) so it has sense to include them into Recent Folders.

Hello Alex,

Thanks for the update and answering my question. Now I understand how virtual folders may be handy. As for AWM 8.5 beta 2, I had already installed it yesterday and can confirm the issue has been solved. I had not been able to inform you yet, because I am trying to solve a computer issue that has a high priority  :(

Thanks again.
Best regards.
