It would be great to have this. I think it might be easy to achieve in windows vista at least.
The way I'd like to use it is similar to the way UAC darkens the whole desktop and leaves the focused window in full brightness.
This would be very helful when working in a very large desktop (30" monitor) with lots and lots of opened windows becuase it would make much easier to spot the focused application while still being able to see the rest of the windows clearly.
thanks.

Hello,
Thank you for your idea. I added your wish to our list of future changes.
Now, we can offer to you following workaround:
1.
Run
the Configuration Module
2. Select the item
Default settings
3. Go to the
Transparency property sheet
4. In the Make Window Transparent Automatically group mark the While inactive check box.
5. Set the desired transparency level.
6. Apply your adjustments.

Hi, yes I had tried with the transparency alredy but it doesn't quite cut it, the focused window is easy to spot and work on, but then the rest of the windows are just a mess of overlapped layers that don't make much sense...
Ok, I hope you can implement the dimming option in a future release.
thank you.

Here is a program that does something similar to what I suggested:
http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Skrommel/#Ghoster
But, it would be much better if actual window manager did it because it would be window/application independent instead of just laying out a semi-transparent black window on top of everything else.
