Hi,
I'm interested in the virtual desktop feature in v5.1 (I currently use v4.5) - but I normally run with two active screens.
Can these be combined - i.e can I have one virtual desktop on one screen and a different desktop on teh other screen ?
I only look in the forums very occasionaly - so please copy responses by e-mail to phil.day@hp.com if possible.

I found that my two-monitor setup got flaky with virtual desktop enabled. Windows would endlessly repaint. So for now, I have backed away from that combination.

Hello guys,
Please specify the following:
- What exactly do you mean?
- How exactly would you like to use the combination of multi-monitors configuration and virtual desktops?

What I meant, Michael, was that, when I hot-key toggled to another virtual desktop, at least one window (I cannot recall if this occurred to all of my windows) flickered (displayed, disappeared, displayed, disappeared) at irregular frequencies. At the time I reported my experience, I had little time to explore the problem. Now I have more time to try it out again. I will let you know if I experience additional anomalies.
Even though I have two monitors, there are workflow scenarios that virtual desktops improve upon. For example, I use separate desktops for system maintenance, Windows development and i5 development.

I see that Thunderbird prevents me from switching to another desktop that has SlickEdit running. It allows me to switch to an empty desktop as well as a desktop with Client Access. I am not sure why that makes a difference, but when it acts up, I cannot even hot-key toggle Thunderbird from one monitor to another. When I focus on another application window and return to the Thunderbird window, I can then toggle Thunderbird between two monitors on the same desktop.

Marc, please transform your last message in the form of step-by-step actions for us to repoduce the problem. And specify with what windows of what applications (versions) should we work on each step.

After trying out the virtual desktops, I have decided that they can add no value to my workflow. A deal-breaker issue that I have is that there is no global view of the collective desktops. Kubuntu does a splendid job of displaying this graphically as well as on the task bar which can show all tasks regardless of which desktop has the focus.

We are planning to implement some kind of collective view...
