Hello, Jeff
What version of PotPlayer are you running?
What OS are you running (version, 32- or 64-bit)?
What version of AWM are you running?
What exaclty doesn't work with PotPlayer?
As I can see, many AWM features work with PotPlayer: hotkeys work, startup actions work. Title buttons are not displayed on this window by default due to its peculiarity. But title buttons is not the only way to use Actual Window Manager features, the features are also available via the hotkeys and the system menu (right click on the window taskbar preview thumbnail). Also you can add title bar to the PotPlayer window and then the title buttons will be displayed (you need to create specific settings for PotPlayer window, then go to the Startup section of the settings > scroll down to the Options > Change standard window parts > set "Border and title bar" to "add").
