MM Background Slideshow Photos-Not Using All Photos

I'm using AWM 7.51 on Win7-x64 3-monitor setup.

Monitor 1 is the center monitor, and monitors 2&3 are on left and right sides.

I'm using Multiple Monitors Background slideshow on monitors 2&3, each pointed to a different directory, one has about 3500 photos and the other about 1500 (all jpg). Monitor 1 is set to have a static black background.

The slideshow function does work, but it is only using a small subset of the photos in each directory. I had the "Random play order" box checked initially, but I unchecked it thinking a program variable might be limiting the sample size. Unchecking this seemed to add a few more pictures to the mix, but the display order is not just say the first 100, it seems to be picking up a random subset with small changes thrown in once in a while.

I'm using proportional stretch, and search in subfolders is checked.

I know the Windows slideshow gadget has a hardcoded limit in one of the xml configuration files, but I was able to increase that to about 4000. Is something similar happening in MM?

Hello Ray

What quantity of pictures do you think is displayed by AWM? Is it the same for the both folders?

Are you sure all these pictures are of the same jpg format (i mean if they're from one source, maybe some of them are some "other jpg")?

Best regards.

Bogdan,

First, thanks for replying to my post.

I can only guesstimate the number of photos actually cycled through. In the 1500 photo folder, 100 to 200, and in the 3500 photo folder, a bit higher. But the subset being used changes a bit once in a while with a new photo selected even though no photos have been added to the directories. Even when I did not select the random play feature, not all the photos were being displayed.

Looking back at my notes for the Windows slideshow gadget, when I changed "gImageCountMax = 2000" to 4000, the pgm wouldn't run, but it did when set to 3000 (this is in slideShow.js).

I understand the need to set a limit with a desktop gadget to minimize memory demands. I'm not so sure this same strict reasoning applies to a regular pgm, other than following good coding practices.

If you need to impose a limit, either set it dynamically or otherwise as large as possible (10,000?). Even with 4000 photos, cycling a 1 minute each gets repetitive very quickly.

All the photos in the directories are regular .jpg files (no jpeg, tiff, gif, etc). And so far as I can determine, all are regular jpg encoded, no strange jpgs.

Maybe it just skips some pictures due to the display order? For now our program has such display order, if you have for example 1500 pictures numbered from 1 to 1500 it will show them in the following order: 1, 10, 100, 1000, 1001, 1002 etc.

Best regards.

Bogdan,

I don't understand. Does this mean that pictures 2-9, 11-99, 101-999 will *not* be displayed? And that all pics 1000-1001-1002...1499-1500 *will* be displayed?

Are you using some kind of non-obvious bit shifting algorithm to select which pics to display?

And: Have you changed anything with the new version 8 software?

Best, --Ray

Hi Ray,

"I don't understand. Does this mean that pictures 2-9, 11-99, 101-999 will *not* be displayed? And that all pics 1000-1001-1002...1499-1500 *will* be displayed?" No,this doesnt mean.Pictures will be displayed in this way: 1,10,1000,1001...,101-999,11-99,2-9

BTW,about version 8: We have made a lot of changes. You can visit this link ( http://www.actualtools.com/windowmanager/whatsnew/ ) and see the changelog
