Actual Window Manager causes a consistent crash of the ftpte.exe process in CuteFTP 9.0 when starting CuteFTP. This crash occurs regardless of whether the process is excluded from the windows settings. Closing Actual Window Manager prevents the crash from occurring. Occurs with 7.3, 7.4, 7.4.1 and 7.4.2.

Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000a70de
Faulting process id: 0xef0
Faulting application start time: 0x01ce04e8428ebd6f

Any thoughts, suggestions?

Hello Chasingsol

I was unable to reproduce the issue.

Have you tried to exclude the whole CuteFTP installation folder?

Could you send us your configuration files using the Send to Tech Support tool?

Best regards.

Hi there. Done, configuration files sent. Thank you for the quick response!

I don't see where there's the functionality to exclude an entire folder. When adding an exclusion, it's looking for executables, but I'm unable to select a folder.

Just specify the path to the installation folder in the Program field of the Target Window criteria area and leave matching to only this parameter.

Thank you, I've added that. Unfortunately, it hasn't resolved the problem, and does exactly the same thing. As soon as I disable AIM, it works normally again without crashing on start-up, so I'm 99.9% confident that the issue is related in some way to AIM. I've also tried disabling the CuteFTP Windows Explorer integration in case it was related to a DLL hook outside of the program folder, but it does not appear to have made a difference.

Hello Chasingsol

What anti-virus software are you running?

Could you make sure that the following option is enabled:
Control Panel > System and Security > Action Center > Change Action Center Settings > Problem Reporting Settings > Each time a problem occurs, ask me before checking for solutions

Then next time the application (CuteFTP) will crash, select the "View problem details" item. In the details area there should be the path to the crash dump file. Send this file to us manually.

Best regards.

Hi there Bogdan,

For antivirus, I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, so nothing exotic.

I've enabled proper crash dumps on my PC. I had to modify the registry as per http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb787181 since enabling it through the Control Panel had no effect, namely it did not provide a link to a crash dump. My settings were already set as you requested.

I have sent you an email with a "full" crash dump of the ftpte.exe process. Email subject line is "CuteFTP 9.0 Crash Dump", with an attachment called cuteftp_9_crash_dump.zip

Thanks again for looking in to this. Of course, let me know if there is anything additional I can provide to assist.

Same issue here, actually since CuteFTP v8, I just didn't realize what was causing it and stopped using CuteFTP.  I just downloaded v9 to see if it had fixed the problem.

Subscribed.  Let me know if you want another crash dump.
