I'm running AWM 7.4.1 on XP Pro SP3. I have rules for several apps that include minimizing to screen buttons. They are all set to Permanent and On top. None of them are completely reliable when it comes to remaining on top of other apps and Windows toolbars.

For example, I have a toolbar docked to the right edge of the screen and set to Autohide. I also have several screen buttons near (but not at) the right edge. Quite frequently, some or all of these screen buttons are covered up by the toolbar when it unhides. Sometimes, they remain visible initially after the toolbar unhides, but some of them disappear (go under) the toolbar as I move my mouse cursor over the toolbar. This is annoying when I inadvertently activate the toolbar when intending to click one of the screen buttons, but it's especially annoying when the screen buttons remain visible at first (after the toolbar unhides), but then the one I'm intending to use (or all of them) disappear before the mouse cursor reaches it.  :o

This kind of unpredictable failure to remain on top happens with app windows too. Much of the time the screen buttons remain on top, but they go under often enough to make the unreliability of this AWM feature a source of frustration.

Hello Mike.

Do you mean it can happen with every screen button, independently on what app it belongs to?

Could you list the apps these screen buttons belong to.

What exactly toolbar are you talking about?

Have you noticed what apps overlap the screen buttons more often?

Best regards.

A toolbar I configured myself by right-clicking the taskbar and choosing New Toolbar. I then dragged the toolbar off the taskbar and docked it to the right side of the desktop. I've had it there for years.

The "app" that overlaps the most often is the toolbar, but that's partially because I usually don't have app windows positioned at that end of the desktop. I have seen it with Windows Notepad and some others, but again, I've got Notepad set up with a rule to open in that area. I don't think it makes any difference what app it is that the buttons get behind.

Hello Mike

I was unable to reproduce this issue.

The toolbar and any window that overlaps the icons is not in the "On-top" mode, right?

How long does the issue last? I mean, first you notice that the toolbar overlaps the icons. Are you able to overlap the icons with any window in that time?

Best regards.

None of the app windows or the toolbar are set to Always on top.

I don't really know how long it lasts, since I usually just allow the toolbar to hide or minimize the window that's hiding the buttons, click the one I need, and go on with my work. There is no pattern and no way to reproduce it on demand. It comes and goes seemingly at random. It's very variable. This is the kind of issue that becomes very annoying, but it doesn't prevent me from getting my work done. It just slows me down and aggravates me.

Sometimes, when I notice that one or more of the screen buttons are not visible behind the toolbar (or an app window), allowing the toolbar to autohide and then unhide again solves the problem, but usually it doesn't. Sometimes doing that will bring back one or two of the buttons, but not all of them, at other times, they all come back to the front, but usually, it doesn't bring any of them back. Incidentally, it's much more common to have all the buttons be hidden behind the toolbar than just some of them.

I have never experimented with different app windows to see if they also would hide the screen buttons when they're hidden by another app or by the toolbar. I'll give that a shot the next time I see the problem. It's a pretty frequent occurrence -- several times a day at least.
