I
still
can't figure out what is going on with Skype and AWM - I know I posted about this years ago (can't just find the post now), but that was probably for AWM V5 or V6. Now on V7.1, and the intermittent problem is still there. I'd be really grateful if anyone else can confirm they see the same, and that it's not just me...
Basically, Skype seems to be really odd (no surprise there) in the way it creates windows - specifically for 'conversations'. I like to have them with restrict size and placement, so all my open conversation windows line up (they also roll-up when inactive). However, I still get occasions when they simply don't seem to follow the rules.
In trying to dig deeper, I turned on logging. And lo and behold, skype windows open without a single entry being generated in the AWM log. So, no surprise again that the rules weren't applied - I guess it would be hard for AWM if it didn't even notice that a window was opened!
To reproduce the effect, all I have to do is:
Close all open conversation windows
Open the skype main window
Select 'Recent' conversations
Double-click on one to open it
I can do all this without a single event being registered in the AWM log.
One other pattern I've noticed is that, generally, if I use the skype 'Close' button on the window, then the
next
time the window is opened, the rules are applied. But if I use the normal windows 'X' close button, the next time the window is opened, the rules won't be applied. I said 'generally', because I have still noticed odd occasions where this pattern didn't apply (e.g. I closed it with the 'Close' button and subsequent rules
weren't
applied, or I closed it with the 'X' button and subsequent rules
were
applied. But that was perhaps 1 time in several dozen tests - all very irritating.
So, is there some way AWM could look harder at what skype is doing?
Many thanks,
David.

Hello David.
I was unable to reproduce the issue.
You are running skype in the Compact View, right?
Could you send us your configuration files using the "Send to Tech Support" tool?
Best regards.

Hello David.
What OS are you running (version, 32 or 64-bit)?
Best regards.
