I just did the 6.7.2 update a couple weeks ago, and started noticing issues that I didn't immediately relate to AWM.

I had been using IE8 and FF3.61, but started having trouble in both.  In IE8 I couldn't type anything in the address bar because everything I typed seemed to move around in the text.  For instance, iF I type "www" then a period, the period would show up in various positions in the "www", though never at the end of the text.  Any other text could also appear anywhere.  There was no cursor to show me where the next character might appear in the string of characters already entered, and sometimes all text would just disappear and I couldn't type anything else till I closed the window and reopened it.  At no time, however, could I ever type a complete address into the address bar, nor did I have a cursor.  It's like the invisible cursor just jumps around arbitrarily within the text as I type.

In both IE and FF, clicking on a download link would not bring up a download window for an extended period of time.  There were also a number of other quirky issues.

At times, all menus and windows (including the Windows Start menu) would begin to flash like they were being refreshed multiple times per second, making it impossible to choose a menu option or type text in some text entry boxes (similar to the address bar in IE).  This issue could only be resolved with a reboot, but it would eventually come back.

I installed the latest versions of both FF and IE hoping that would cure some of the issues, but it didn't.  After thinking of anything I installed or updated lately, I started going through the list and stopping processes/services.  As soon as I stopped AWM, all the problems stopped.  I reloaded AWM and the issues came back.  I don't know how AWM is causing the issues, but I can repeat this anytime.  I'm using Vista 32bit Home Premium.

I looked through the forums and don't see this issue anywhere, so I may be the only one having this problem, but basically I can't use AWM since the 6.7.2 update.  It doesn't seem to be related to anything else I have installed, and it affects multiple areas of the system.

Anyone else had any problems like this since this update?

No, with IE 9 and FF 9.0.1 I am not experiencing any of these issues with AWM 6.7.2 or 6.8 beta 1 (Vista Ultimate 32-bit). But that does not help you much. Do you have any specific settings for IE and/or FF? If so, deactivate them by unchecking and try again. If the problem is resolved then, the problem lies in the definitions of the specific settings. I have seen weird behaviour like you described in the past if the target window was not defined correctly in a specific setting, and this is the way to test that.

Hey Pim,

Thanks for the reply.  After seeing the problem in IE8 and FF3.61 I upgraded both to latest versions.  Disabled or removed all add-ons and extensions.  Don't have any toolbars, etc.  And I don't have any settings specific to any programs, including the browsers.  Same things happened in the newer versions that were happening in the older versions.  I prefer using FF3.61 to any of the newer versions, and will probably go back to it.

There are some issues that are browser specific, like the inability to type anything meaningful into the address bar of IE, but there are also things that are system wide.  Like the flashing that goes on in all menus, including all pop-up, right-click, and program or system menus.  The flashing also occurs in Windows Explorer folder/file lists and the pop-up folder lists for things such as 'Save As', making it pretty much impossible to navigate.

If no one else is having any similar issues it has to be something specific to my system, but everything was working fine before the update so I'm at a loss.  I've also tried disabling all non-essential startups and services to track it down, no luck there.  Guess my only option is to not use AWM for the time being and wait for the next update to see what happens...

Hello gentlemen,

Thanks for the post.

CodeDog, could you send me your configuration files (Actual Window Manager -> File -> Send Configuration -> Send to the Tech Support)?

- How often does the problem occur?

Could you also check whether the problems still persists with the 6.8 beta 1 version of Actual Window Manger (http://actualtools.com/files/aim68b1.exe) on your system?

Best regards.

Vasiliy,

I normally just wait for final versions, so I hadn't tried the beta till you suggested it.  Just downloaded and installed it, and it seems to have taken care of the issues.  Have only had it installed a short while, but so far the problems I was having are gone.  Nothing flashing (yet), and I can type normally in the IE address bar again.

I had tried uninstalling 6.7.2 a couple times using Revo and doing a clean reinstall and it hadn't made any difference, but the beta seems to be working fine.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I did notice the beta expires in 10 days, though, will there be a way to extend that or should the next beta be out by then?

Thanks again...

- When the beta version expires you should either roll back to the last stable release, update your beta to a new one (if available), or upgrade to a new stable release (if available).

Please don't worry - until the current beta version expires, we will release either the next beta with the prolonged testing period or the final version.

Best regards.
