When reading the online manual I get confused about how the option AltMin should appear in the window menu. The first illustration on this page displays “Minimize to tray”, whereas the explanation a little bit lower on the same page says that a submenu should appear. In both my AWM installations I get a menu like the first illustration and no submenu. I have been looking in my configuration module, but I could not find any way to get the submenu. So it seems that either the part of the help text about the AltMin submenu is wrong or something else is wrong in AWM.
What I have also found is that the window menu always seems to display Minimize to tray. I cannot find an option to change it to Minimize to screen, nor does it change if I alter the AltMin Title Button to "Minimize to screen". It would be nice to be able to select the AltMin modes through the window menu, independently of the settings for the title button. Some kind of submenu would therefore be handy I think.

I am using AWM 6.6. on a Vista Ultimate 32-bit and a Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine.

Hello Pim,

Thanks for the post.

The "AltMin" option should be turned on on the "Title Buttons" tab.

This window submenu will appear on the right mouse button click on the "AltMin" button.

Best regards.

Hello Vasiliy,

Thanks for your reply. I have found that option of the Title Button after writing my post. I got confused because the help text I referred to is related to the Window Menu and there the suggestion is given that the submenu should (also) appear when using the window menu, which is apparently incorrect.

There are 2 ways to solve this. First, you can adjust the help text so that it matches the actual possibilities of the window menu. Second, and I prefer this method, is to also display the submenu when using the window menu. If the submenu is also included in the window menu, I think it is more consistent with AWM’s general approach that many options are accessible via both a title button (if defined) and the window menu. Also, if I have defined a window with no AltMin button, I can still access it via the window menu. I tend to want to have more window menu options than title buttons, because there is less room for title buttons compared to the room I have for window menu options. Last, it is currently impossible to have Minimize to screen as a window menu option. By adding the submenu I can also take this road to minimize to screen.

Thanks again.
Best regards.

Pim,

It seems there is a misunderstanding.

Actually, the submenu with the contents similar to the mentioned title button's context menu is available in the window menu as well: it lurks in the Options submenu (the most bottom item added by AWM). It's a submenu where AWM actions add their various extra options that are not required often. BTW, using the "Options -> AltMin -> Minimize to screen" command you can change the minimization mode for the AltMin menu command (it will change from "Minimize to tray" to "Minimize on screen").

Hope this will clarify the matter. Please let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions.

Ahhh. Thank you very much for this clarification, Alex. As I wrote before, I am currently going through the Online Manual. In doing that I found this issue. I think the manual needs to be adjusted here, because it does not speak of "options" in the window menu (yet), and that is why I got confused. I will include this in my feedback on the entire manual, which I promised in the other post. It may take some time before I am finished with collecting the feedback (AWM is a comprehensive program ;) ), but I think it is handier for you to have the overview in one post/document.
