Particulars: ACTUAL TOOLS SUITE 8.3. ISSUE: WINDOW SETTINGS/EXCLUSIONS (transparency issue), OS: WINDOWS 8.1 64bit, fully updated. Issue occurred in Quickbooks Pro 2015 R6_139, but the problem is now with ACTUALS TOOLS itself.

I just purchased Actual Tools Suite 8.3. In the course of using it, I discovered an issue with one of my programs (Quickbooks Pro 2015). For some reason, when I clicked on the Edit menu and sel ected Preferences in this program, rather than my preferences appearing, the window would go TRANSPARENT from Actual Tools. I wanted to disable Actual Tools for my program window temporarily to access my preferences, so to do so I used the Actual Tools' Windows Settings, Sel ect Window from List Crosshair function to disable the window. This solved my problem and did away with transparency enabling when I used my menu option in my program, but then, when I went to my Exclusions list, I found no entry for the program. I wanted to remove this program from the exclusion list to see if later I could configure Actual Tools to work around the issue I had encountered. I then noticed that Actual Tools states ONLY to use the Sel ect Window fr om List Crosshair feature AFTER you create a new window rule. Unfortunately, being a new user, I did this before I created a new window rule. Now my program is not on my exclusions list, and I can see no way to remove it fr om exclusions. I examined the Actual Tools INI files, but couldn't find anything there to remove the program as an exclusion. Short of removing and reinstalling Actual Tools (I've put a lot of work into configuring it) does anyone have a suggestion for how to remove a program fr om Exclusions that is not on the Exclusions list? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello Ray,

Thanks for the post.

Please send us your configuration files (Actual Window Manager -> Tools -> Configuration -> Send to Tech Support).
Could you also check what Window Settings are applied to the Preferences window? You could check it using the Log feature (AWM's tray icon context menu -> Show log window).

Hello Vasiliy,

Thank you for your reply. After continuing to tinker with the program, I was able to solve my problem. I examined more closely the Window Settings / Exclusions list, and found an odd entry that I had passed over before. The Name section referred to one of my other programs (that's what threw me off), but then I observed that the path shown under Program was to Quickbooks. So I went ahead and deleted that entry.

I then went into Window Settings / Default Settings and disabled Transparency globally. I also went to Default Settings / Window Menu and disabled the Make Transparent action.

I think I may have restarted my system after that, but I don't recall. In any case, when I reloaded Quickbooks, my Modify Applied Settings, Stay On Top, and Roll Up window buttons had returned. Also my Windows Menu options were back: Manage Window Settings, Snap, etc., minus, of course, Make Transparent. I was then able to select Edit/Preferences in Quickbooks and it worked correctly.

It's unfortunate that I can't use Transparency, because it was useful to me in other programs, but I can live with that. The other functions I mentioned above are far more important to me for managing my Windows work environment.

Thank you again for replying.

Hello Ray,

Did you try to add the Preferences window (with all window criteria [Window class, Window caption and Program] enabled and adjusted) to the Exclusions list of Actual Window Manager again after deleting the entry from Window Settings?
