I'm evaluating Actual Window. One issue I've run into is that when hovering over a taskbar icon, the preview windows are sometimes hidden behind a window. This is only happening on the primary monitor, not the secondary one (at least with the "Mixed" multi-monitor taskbar option.) It happens even when I have the "multi-monitor Taskbar" option off. Sometimes the preview is hidden behind all windows on the monitor. Sometimes it is only hidden behind a window if the window has focus before/when hovering over the task buttons. I saw this issue (or a very similar one) reported in this thread from 2010. But it was reported as being fixed. So I'm not sure if this is a regression, or a different issue. Is there perhaps a setting that is causing this?

Hello Mark

What version of Actual Window Manager are you running?

What OS are you running (name, version)?

Are you always able to reproduce this issue?

Does it depend on what application the preview belongs to?

Is the primary taskbar the system taskbar?

Best regards.

Hello Bogdan,

I'm running Actual Window Manager v7.5.1 on Windows 7 Professional x64 with Service Pack 1. And yes, the primary taskbar is the System taskbar.

The issue seems to be intermittent. (A developer's "favorite" type of issue to track down.) Initially yesterday the popup previews were only hidden by the active window (i.e. the window that had focus). The preview popups did appear over nonactive windows. It did not matter what application the preview belonged to. All previews were blocked. (And that was testing with ~10 different applications.) Then at some point yesterday, the previews were hidden under any and all windows, not just the last active window as had occurred initially. Again this was for all application previews. Finally, today the issue is not occurring at all (after a nightly shutdown and restart in the morning).

Yesterday I did accidentally invoke a Actual Window Manager feature via a mistyped hotkey sequence when working in my IDE. Unfortunately I do not recall which one. That might have been the action that results in the issue surfacing. I'll keep a close eye on my actions today and see if the issue returns. If it does I'll try to narrow down the possible cause.  At the end of the day before shutting down, I'll try to go through the list of hotkeys and see if invoking any of them causes the issue to surface.

Let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Best Regards

I was able to find what causes the issue to surface. If I make a configuration change to the Actual Window Manager settings, save the settings, and then close the configuration dialog, I start experiencing the issue where the previews are hidden behind the active tool window. Here for example is a sequence that is 100% repeatable for me:

1. Restart Windows
--No issue
2. Open Actual Windows Manager Configure window. (I'm doing such via the context menu of the system tray icon.)
3. Change the "Window Snapping" setting "To the grid". (It does not necessary have to be this setting. This is just an easy example.)
4. Save the settings and close the Configure dialog
--Preview popups are now hidden behind the active tool window until the next restart of windows

This has been repeatable for me 4 times in a row.

I have not determined what I did yesterday (if anything) to subsequently cause the preview popups to be hidden behind any and all windows.

Hello Mark

Thank you for narrowing down the issue.

The problem has been confirmed.

We'll try to fix it.

Best regards.
