Hi,

This is a Windows 7-specific bug, I think, concerning the network icon in the systray that has been in Actual Tools for years now and never has been fixed.
A colleague of mine has reported it already a long time ago but there was never anything done about it.
It seems strange, since this is really a rather obvious (and annoying) bug. I just tried the latest version of the Window Manager in a five-screen environment (Windows 7 x64, three screens with 1920x1200, two screens with 1024x1280, three nVidia Quadro 6000 cards) and there seems to be no way around the bug.

So here is the thing:
To the left of the speaker icon in the systray (area in the lower-left corner of the screen) resides the "Network Connections" icon which you can use to quickly connect to VPN networks or access the "Network and Sharing Center".

(NOTE: If you don't see this icon, you have likely disabled it.
You can enable it by clicking on the arrow in the systray, selecting "Customize..." and then clicking "Turn system icons on or off" (also see picture 1 below). In this dialog you can switch the "Network" icon to on and in the previous dialog you can set it so that it always resides in the systray (and does not vanish to the extended systray) by selecting "Show icons and notifications" fr om the drop-down menu.)

Now, if you have several monitors, the taskbar (if enabled in Actual Tools) will span all monitors and duplicate the systray to every screen as well.
This is where the trouble begins:
Quote
Now, if you try clicking this "Network" icon in the systray on any of these taskbars which are NOT on the primary monitor, you will find that the popup window with the network information will still always open on the primary monitor!
This means you will have to move your mouse from wh erever you are all the way to the primary monitor's systray to access the network menu. This is especially annoying if the primary monitor is out of your sight and you wonder why you can't see the network popup appearing even though you keep clicking away on the network icon...! (See also picture 2 below).

What SHOULD actually happen is exactly what happens if you click on the speaker icon or the clock/date: The popup window displaying the respective information should open on the screen on which you have clicked the icon accordingly, NOT on the primary screen.

This behaviour is systemic, by the way:
The same bug occurs if you use the "Connect to" option from the start menu (again, this option might not be visible on your system, in which case you will have to enable it through the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties" by right clicking anywhere on the taskbar, selecting "Properties", selecting "Start Menu", clicking the "Customize" button and in this list enabling the "Connect To" entry (see also picture 3 below). Now a new button named "Connect To" will show up in your start menu on the right hand side).

If you click this "Connect To" button in the start menu, the same thing happens, namely the network window pops up on the main screen only, regardless of which screen you are currently on.

I reckon this should be a quick and easy bug to fix (seeing as all other systray icons work perfectly as far as I can see) and would surely be much appreciated.

I hope this can be fixed soon.

Thank you very much,
Mike

Hello Mike

I'd like to inform you that the subject issue has been fixed. The fix is available in the Actual Window Manager new version 7.1 (as well as in the new versions of other our programs that provide the relevant functionality).

Best regards.
